Help & frequently asked questions
Start with the planner
Trips lists your journeys beside the map. Open a trip to plan it. Planning is disabled when no trip is open. Trips closes the current trip and returns to your list. Stop edits recalculate and save automatically; wait for a save to finish before leaving.
Trips and rigs
New trip asks for the start, the end, the departure date and one of your saved rigs; the RV route is calculated when you save, and the trip opens ready for stops. Without a rig it is saved as a draft until you choose one in Trip tools. You can also import a portable .krvtrip file. Use the + controls to choose where to add a stop, then select a map location and Add to trip. Stop actions move or remove a stop; Stay & reservation opens an editor under the stop for nights, the reserved arrival date, a confirmed (locked) flag, reservation notes, RV access and site length. Stay changes save without recalculating the route. Final destination is shown separately.
Trip tools → Trip has Duplicate (a separate copy to change freely), Reverse (swap the start and end and run the stops backwards) and Make round trip (return to the start; the current end becomes an overnight stop). Reverse and round trip recalculate the route and keep your reservation details on each stop, so check the dates afterwards. Delete trip removes the trip from your list and from computers that sync with your account; Recently deleted in your trip list restores it for 30 days.
Save separate rigs for solo and towing configurations in Options → Rigs. Enter height, width, and total combination length in feet and inches, plus loaded weight in pounds. On a saved trip’s Planning tab, choose Trip rig configuration and select Assign rig & calculate route. This works for drafts and existing routes. It copies the rig configuration into the trip; after editing an account rig, assign it again to update the trip. A failed calculation keeps the assigned rig but clears any route calculated for the previous dimensions and displays the error.
Route shaping
To make the route use a particular road or go through a place without stopping there, open Trip tools → Route shaping, select Pick a point on the map, then tap the map where the route should pass. The route is recalculated with that point; Remove takes it out again. Shaping points appear as small blue diamonds and are not stops.
Trip plan, costs and travel settings
The trip plan shows total miles and driving time, the estimated arrival, fuel and campground costs, and each stop’s arrival time and fuel on arrival. Things to check lists problems such as exceeding your daily driving limit, running short of fuel, an unconfirmed RV access or a site that is too short for the rig. Show suggested overnight areas and fuel stop areas places Z and F markers on the map; they are search areas along the route, not booked sites.
Routes calculated from October 2026 on include elevation. A collapsed-by-default Elevation drawer at the bottom of the map shows the profile. Click the graph to center and zoom the map to that part of your route; a marker identifies the selected location. You can also focus the graph and use the arrow keys, Home, or End. For an older trip, use Trip tools → Refresh route to add elevation. Elevation comes from map data and is smoothed over short distances, so posted grade signs and local knowledge take precedence.
Change the departure time, most driving hours a day, breaks, fuel price, nightly campground budget and fuel at departure in Trip tools → Travel settings. Leave fuel at departure blank for a full tank. Arrival dates on the stops come from the trip plan; a reserved arrival date holds that stay on its date. The trip plan needs a rig with fuel economy and tank size and a calculated route. All figures are estimates: confirm reservations, fuel and road access before you travel.
Sites along this route
Sites along this route, under the trip plan, lists sites from the site directory near your calculated route, in the order you reach them: military campgrounds and FamCamps, public parks and saved campgrounds by default, and Love's, Pilot Flying J, Buc-ee's and Cracker Barrel when you tick them. Choose how far from the route to look (5 to 50 miles; straight-line distance, not the driving detour). Each site shows its mile on the route, and sites near a suggested overnight area from the trip plan are marked, with a heading where each suggested overnight falls, so you can pick where to stay each night. Show on map centers the map on the site; Add as overnight stop (or Add as fuel stop for fuel brands) puts it into the trip in route order and recalculates the route. Fuel stops are where the trip plan fills the tank. Only directory sites are listed: campground search on the map finds more, and availability, access and fees must still be checked with the site.
Trip checklist
Checklist, under Sites along this route, keeps your departure, towing and arrival checks with the trip. Add the standard RV checklist to start (before you leave, hitch and tow, on the road, arriving at camp), then remove what does not apply and add your own items under any heading. Ticks save straight away and do not change the route. Uncheck all clears the ticks for the next travel day. Checklists sync on their own: ticking items on your phone does not override trip changes you made offline on your computer, and the most recent checklist edit is kept. It is never shown on visitor links. The standard items are reminders, not a safety standard: follow your rig's manuals.
Print and GPS export
Trip tools → Route & sharing → Print itinerary opens a printable page with the trip summary, each stop’s estimated arrival, stay and reservation details, and things to check; use your browser’s Print to print it or save it as a PDF. GPX for GPS downloads a file for Garmin RV units and other GPS apps: a route through your stops, a waypoint for each stop (with nights and reservation notes) and the planned route as a track. Your GPS calculates its own route from it, so compare the two before driving. Very long routes are simplified to 10,000 track points. KML for Google Earth shows the route and stops in Google Earth or Google My Maps. Add to calendar (.ics) downloads a calendar file for Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar: the departure, each overnight stay as an all-day event (your reserved dates when entered, otherwise the trip plan's estimate, with your reservation notes), fuel stops and visits at their estimated times, and the arrival. It needs a rig, because the dates come from the trip plan. Importing an updated file again replaces the earlier events in most calendar apps; if yours adds duplicates, delete the old ones.
Share a trip (visitor link)
Trip tools → Route & sharing → Create visitor link makes a read-only web page of the trip to send to family or friends: a map of the route and stops, the departure, each stop's estimated arrival and nights, and the reserved dates you entered. They do not need an account. Costs, fuel, your rig and things to check are never shown. Reservation notes and contact details are shown only if you tick Include reservation notes and contact details (leave it off if your notes hold confirmation numbers or gate codes). The start and end addresses are hidden unless you tick Show the start and end addresses; while hidden, the first and last few miles of the route are left off the map too, so a trip that starts or ends at home does not show where you live. The page always shows the trip as it is now, so changes you make appear there too. Copy link copies the address; Turn off link stops it working at once, and a new link gets a new address. Deleting the trip also turns its link off. Visitor pages are not listed by search engines, but anyone who has the link can open it, so share it only with people you trust.
Layers and facility details
Options → Layers controls military destinations, public parks, campgrounds and individual travel-stop brands. Under Points of interest, Rest areas and Truck stops (all brands) show those places from HERE map data when you are zoomed in to a few hundred miles or less; select one to add it to your trip as a stop. Check parking and overnight rules on site. Zoom or pan to discover campgrounds: sites already in the directory show first, and campgrounds found nearby are added a moment later. A limited result set does not mean there are no other facilities. Open Details for contact information. Websites open in a new tab; compatible sites can also appear inside details.
Reviews and private notes
Reviews require approval before others can see them. Private notes are visible only to your account. These features require a matched directory location. Confirm military eligibility, reservations, current fuel prices, and parking permission directly.
Weather
The Weather tab shows a seven-day forecast near the map center. Use the crosshair to position the map, then wait for the forecast to update. Select a day for additional weather details; Back returns to the week. Weather alerts mark affected zone centers, not boundaries. Enable Radar under Options → Layers → Weather to show the latest available RainViewer radar frame. Its local-time timestamp appears below the toggle. Play history animates the past two hours in 10-minute steps; Pause stops playback, and the timeline slider selects an individual frame. Playback buffers the visible map area first, so frames advance without pausing to load. Panning or zooming loads new area tiles in the background. This is observed history, not a future forecast. Radar checks for updates every five minutes while enabled and the page is visible. Regional radar tiles are enlarged at close zooms, not made more detailed. Coverage may be incomplete; blank areas do not guarantee clear weather. The previous Precipitation control is currently hidden. Use official emergency warnings and road restrictions, not this planner alone.
Driving range rings
Options → Layers → Driving range → Range rings draws circles every so many miles (you choose the distance and up to four rings) around a blue dot, to see roughly how far a day’s drive reaches. Move the map and select Center rings on the map to move them. The rings measure straight-line distance; road miles are longer, often by 20% or more. Your choice is remembered on that device.
AI chat and privacy
The website supplies the travel assistant. You do not enter an API key or choose an AI provider.
Choose whether to enable AI when signing up, or later in My account. You can revoke consent there. Enabled chat sends your messages, preferences, and selected trip/rig context to our hosted AI provider. Public research queries may be sent to Tavily. Do not enter passwords, payment details, or sensitive personal information. Check cited sources and facility rules. The assistant gives advice, and it can prepare a new trip from your conversation: once it has the trip name, start, end, departure date and which saved rig to use, it shows a Review & create trip button that opens New trip already filled in. Nothing is saved until you check the details and select Save there, which calculates the RV route. It cannot change existing trips.
Photos
Open Photos in facility details to upload a JPEG or PNG up to 5 MB and 24 megapixels. Photos are private by default. Public sharing requires approval. You can remove your own photos. Only upload photos you have permission to share.
Account and access
My account combines your name, phone, password, and two-factor authentication settings. Changing or resetting your password signs out every connected computer. After five wrong passwords in a row, sign-in is paused for a few minutes; connected computers pause syncing for that time and then carry on. Your sign-in username cannot change. Theme supports Light, Dark, and System; Save preferences keeps the selection on your account. Create an account from Join on the public pages (when signup is open) or from an invitation, then confirm your email. Email updates are a separate opt-in list, not an account.
Personal data → Download my data saves a file with everything your account holds: profile, preferences, rigs, trips with their routes (including recently deleted ones), visitor links, connected computers, assistant conversations, and the reviews, photos and suggestions you submitted. Passwords and sign-in keys are never included. Close account (it needs your password) signs you out everywhere, disconnects your computers, removes your trips from your lists, turns off visitor links, hides your public reviews and photos, stops the account from signing in. Your data is kept so the account can be reopened on request; ask us if you want it erased.
Membership and payment
A membership is required to use the planner. My account → Membership shows your rate, its status, your next payment and the PayPal reference. Choose monthly or yearly billing (yearly is offered when your rate has a yearly price), then join with the PayPal buttons (a PayPal account or a debit or credit card) or with Continue to PayPal; we never see card numbers. Refresh status from PayPal updates the page right after a payment.
Cancel on the same page at any time: payments stop and you keep access until the end of the month or year you paid for. To change how often you pay, use Switch to yearly billing (or Switch to monthly billing) on the Membership page: the new payment starts at your next renewal and the old one stops, so you are not charged twice. To change the card you pay with, use PayPal: Settings → Payments → Automatic payments. Without an active membership the planner sends you to the Membership page; your trips and rigs are kept, and My account, Download my data and Close account still work. Closing your account cancels the PayPal membership first.
Membership rates: some rates, such as veteran rates, need approval. Apply at signup or on the Membership page with a short note about how you qualify, and upload supporting documents there: up to 5 files (PDF, JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, 8 MB each), for example a DD-214 or VA benefit summary letter. Cover your Social Security number and other ID numbers first, and do not upload a photo of a military ID card. Documents are encrypted, only the site owner can open them, and they are deleted as soon as the request is approved, declined or withdrawn. When a lower rate is approved, approve the new PayPal payment on the Membership page: it starts at your next renewal and the old payment stops, so you are not charged twice. An approved free rate stops PayPal payments straight away.
For the site owner: Site administration → Payments & PayPal holds provider credentials, plan setup, payment mode, subscriptions and events. Memberships & approvals holds signup and access settings, rates, document requests, members and waivers.
Military service verification
My account → Military verification explains ID.me availability and supporting documents. ID.me verification is enabled only after provider registration. Login.gov verifies identity, not military service, and is not connected here. Retired and 100% disabled status requires supporting documents and owner review; identity verification alone is not enough. Free access for those groups is not currently available.
Administration and limitations
Owners can create and revoke private invitations, approve reviews, and manage PayPal, membership rates, rate requests and members under Site administration → Payments. Several site-management editors remain unfinished. No live navigation or guarantee of RV road suitability is provided.
Something went wrong?
If a save fails, keep the trip open and retry. If your session expires, sign in again. Tell us the facility or trip name and what you clicked; never send passwords or API keys. Website embedding depends on the facility’s own security policy.
Archive and delete trips
In your trip list, Archive moves a trip into Archived trips without erasing it. Restore to active brings it back. This status travels with the trip when your devices sync. Archiving disables existing visitor links. Delete trip expands an inline confirmation; deletion removes the trip from synced devices but keeps a recoverable copy. Use Recently deleted to restore trips deleted within the last 30 days. Restoring a deleted archived trip leaves it archived until you choose Restore to active.
Military campground website reviews (owner)
Open Site administration → Site directory, filter Military and edit a facility. Search, category, archived-site selection, page and list scroll position are remembered in this browser tab when you return from editing. Select Clear filters to reset the search; closing the tab ends this saved list session. This requires browser session storage. Review website with AI reads the campground URL through Tavily and uses the site's DeepSeek model to draft changes. Use a specific campground page rather than a general base homepage. Review the source quote, compare the saved record, edit the draft, then confirm and select Approve & save website update. No data changes until approval. If the page cannot be read or no matching campground information is found, nothing is marked reviewed. The draft expires after two hours and cannot overwrite an intervening edit.
Saving an approved review sets the website to the reviewed page, last update and website-review time to now, and the description to Updated from web site. Coordinates and import identity do not change. For a manual review, edit the record and tick I checked this campground's website before saving. Ordinary edits do not claim a new website verification. AI review requires enabled sitewide AI and Tavily search and may incur provider charges; verify all proposed facts yourself.
Memberships separate from payments
Site administration → Memberships & approvals contains document approvals, rate requests, member search, rates, access settings and individual payment waivers. Payments & PayPal contains provider credentials, payment mode, plan setup, subscription/payment details and events. Membership access changes do not change the payment mode. After changing a paid rate, open Payments & PayPal to update its provider plans.
Site administration and returning to your trip
Site administration is an owner-only link in the main navigation, separate from My account. Its menu groups AI & services, members & billing, and content & feedback. My account holds personal profile, security, membership and consent settings.
When you leave an open saved trip for account or administration pages, Back to trip returns to that trip. The link follows the most recently opened trip in this browser session; opening the trip library clears it. Deleted trips and trips belonging to another account are not reopened. Unsaved edits are not preserved by leaving the page.
Sitewide AI & search
Owners open Site administration → AI & search to enable or disable chat, select a DeepSeek model ID, set the output-token limit, toggle Tavily search, add sitewide guidance, and replace API keys. Blank key fields keep current keys; replacement keys are encrypted and never shown. A changed model is checked against DeepSeek's model catalog before saving. Check connection & models checks the saved DeepSeek key and available model IDs, not chat quality or Tavily search. There is no automatic alternate-provider fallback. Settings apply to the next chat request and do not delete conversations.
The assistant can explain the actual controls but cannot edit existing trips. To change daily driving hours, open the trip's wrench (Trip tools) → Travel settings → Most driving hours a day, then Save travel settings. No route recalculation is required.
Owner payment waivers
The owner can grant an individual account access without payment in Site administration → Memberships & approvals → Members using Waive payment. The assigned membership rate and veteran document approval stay unchanged; a waiver does not turn the account into a Complimentary beta account. The member sees Payment waived by owner on their Membership page, with no checkout required.
A waiver stays active until the owner selects Remove waiver. Removing it does not charge the member: access then follows the assigned rate and any remaining paid time. Existing or pending PayPal subscriptions must be cancelled first and their status checked before a waiver can be granted. The waiver control does not cancel, restart or refund PayPal payments.
Complimentary beta access and feedback
Complimentary accounts are invitation-only beta-testing accounts, not a public free plan or a promise of permanent free access. Before using beta features, read and accept the testing and confidentiality agreement under My account → Beta feedback. The checkbox is not preselected; we record your name, the accepted version and text, and the acceptance time. You can still manage or close your account without accepting.
Choose Send feedback for bugs, feature requests, things that do not work, or testing notes. Include steps and expected/actual behavior when useful. Reports and replies are private to you and the owner. Do not send passwords, keys, sensitive documents or URLs containing tokens. There are no attachments or email notifications in this feedback form. Check Your reports for replies and status. You can export feedback and agreement records through Personal data.
The owner reviews reports in Site administration → Beta feedback, replies privately, and marks them New, Reviewing, Planned, Resolved or Closed. A tester reply reopens a resolved or closed report.
Site review history (owner)
Site editor ? Checked / changed history shows recorded checks, sources, notes and field-by-field before/after changes. Filter by Updated, Unchanged, Unresolved or ordinary manual edits. The directory's Latest recorded website check filter uses the latest recorded review; Not-reviewed means no review in this new history, not that an older website timestamp is invalid. On an individual site, Review trail records a checked-unchanged or unresolved result without altering its directory fields. Ordinary edits are logged separately and do not claim website verification. Older checks cannot be reconstructed into before/after history.
Military accommodation
Military identifies the operator, not the accommodation. Sites can offer RV sites (including dry camping), tent camping, cabins/cottages and hotel/lodge rooms in any combination. Unknown means not verified, not unavailable. The map Military accommodation selector and Sites along this route selector default to RV and tent camping plus unverified candidates. Known lodging without confirmed camping is excluded from that default; choose Cabins, cottages & hotel rooms or All military accommodation to find it. Verified RV sites restricts results to confirmed RV facilities; it does not guarantee current availability or base access. Changing these filters never removes saved trip stops. Owners maintain each capability and its evidence in Site editor; classification edits appear in history.
Photos & documents
In site details, Photos & documents holds publisher maps, image previews and PDF links alongside traveler photos. Publication dates identify older maps. Preview images load only when requested from the publisher; PDF links open externally. Owners attach, edit, archive and restore resource links from the site editor.
